I love color. My travels to Third World countries where the native dress is colorful has influenced my color sense. I also love cutting up pieces of fabric and sewing them back together. I think it is form of escapism from the everyday world. I have sewn since high school and started quilting 20 years ago. Classes with Nancy Crow, who I have studied with since the beginning, got me off to a good start. From her I learned to work with no patterns, free cutting, everything sewn in.
I use cotton fabric, some my own hand dyes, some with changes to the surface by stamping, shibori (Japanese tie dye), or photo transfer. My quilts are machine pieced and quilted.
