Janet's Artist's Statement

Working in fiber provides me with the opportunity to play with color and to incorporate a textural element into my work.  I am attracted to irregular patterns and find inspiration from primitive textiles and patterns from nature and architecture, such as the close-up view of a bird's wing, reflections in water, rock structures, a bamboo fence or a stone wall.  I work improvisationally, letting the fabrics and colors lead me as I work.

Janet's Notable Achievements

Janet has been juried into the extremely prestigious Fiberarts International, as well as numerous appearances in Art Quilts Elements (Art Quilts at the Sedgwick, as it was previously known). In 2005, the Bellevue Art Museum reopened under the directorship of Michael Monroe, former director of the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery of American Craft and Director of the American Craft Council. Janet received the great honor of being chosen by Michael Monroe as a "Featured Artist" in the inaugural reopening exhibit.
