Sharon's Artist Statement

I make art because it makes my heart sing. I feel a very special type of joy when I see shapes, colors, patterns and textures come together in unique ways.

After forty years of practicing architecture I've chosen quilts as my new art form. I welcome the opportunity to embrace opposites: moving from hard to soft, neutral to colorful, teamwork to solitary pursuit, a "man's world" to "women's work."

I always felt I needed to prove myself as a successful professional, and now that I have closed that chapter of my life, I feel free to do what I am passionate about. I cannot help but be influenced by my years in the construction industry, but I try hard not to be limited by that mindset. Some of my work is purely abstract; some uses abstracted forms to express my deep concerns about climate change and social issues.

Sharons's Notable Achievements

Sharon has shown individually and in group shows with Allied Artists of Whatcom County and our own FiberOptix. Her work has been seen in a number of national, regional, and local venues including Visions Art Museum, Whatcom Museum, the Jansen Center, Penn Cove gallery, Studio UFO and Wandering Oaks Gallery.
